Greg Olsen talks interest in Panthers HC job

Former Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen recently spoke about his interest in the team’s head coaching job, which was recently filled by Matt Rhule.

Olsen, who retired from the NFL after the 2020 season, has always had a strong connection to the Panthers organization. He spent nine seasons with the team and was a fan favorite, earning three Pro Bowl selections and becoming the franchise’s all-time leader in receiving yards by a tight end.

In an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio, Olsen expressed his interest in the Panthers’ head coaching position, saying, “I think it’s a great job. I think it’s a great opportunity for whoever gets it. I think it’s a great opportunity for the organization to kind of reset and get back to where they were a few years ago.”

Olsen also mentioned that he has a good relationship with Panthers owner David Tepper and believes that the team is in good hands with him at the helm. He also praised the hiring of Matt Rhule, saying, “I think Matt Rhule is going to do a great job. I think he’s a great coach and I think he’s going to do a great job there.”

Despite his interest in the head coaching job, Olsen acknowledged that he is not quite ready to jump into a coaching role just yet. He explained, “I think I’m a little ways away from that. I think I need to take a little bit of a break and kind of decompress from playing for so long.”

Olsen also mentioned that he is currently enjoying spending time with his family and exploring other opportunities, such as broadcasting. However, he did not rule out the possibility of coaching in the future, saying, “I think at some point, I’ll get back into football in some capacity. I don’t know if it’ll be coaching, but I think I’ll always be around the game in some capacity.”

Olsen’s interest in the Panthers’ head coaching job is not surprising, given his strong ties to the organization and his passion for the game. However, it is clear that he is taking the time to step back and evaluate his options before making any decisions about his future in football.

In the meantime, the Panthers are in good hands with Matt Rhule at the helm, and Olsen will continue to support the team from the sidelines. Whether he eventually decides to pursue a coaching career or not, his impact on the Panthers organization will always be remembered and appreciated by fans.
