“Canucks Shock Hockey World with Jaw-Dropping Goalie Swap to Penguins!”

Arturs Silovs’ time with the Vancouver Canucks has come to an end.

Vancouver traded the goaltender to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday in exchange for forward Chase Stillman and a fourth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.

Silovs recorded a 14-5-1 record with a .908 save percentage and career-best 2.41 goals-against average in 21 regular-season games with the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks. He also appeared in 10 NHL games with the Canucks, going 2-6-1 with a 3.65 goals-against average and a .861 save percentage.

The 24-year-old was pivotal to Abbotsford’s run to a Calder Cup title, going 16-7 with a 2.01 goals-against average and .931 save percentage. He also posted five shutouts in the AHL playoffs and was just the fourth goaltender to be awarded playoff MVP.

However, with Thatcher Demko and Kevin Lankinen locked up to long-term deals, Silovs’ path to the NHL was uncertain.

“We would like to thank Arturs for everything he has done for the hockey club, including helping Abbotsford win the Calder Cup,” general manager Patrik Allvin wrote in a statement. “We wanted to give him an opportunity elsewhere as we feel we are very well positioned in goal at the NHL, AHL and developmental level. Acquiring a future pick and depth forward will add to our organizational depth.”

Stillman split the season between the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Utica Comets, registering 12 points in 65 games. Stillman was originally selected in the first round of the 2021 NHL Draft by the New Jersey Devils.
