The Sûreté du Québec says it will be stepping up police presence in the province for the two-week construction holiday.
The SQ says it’s increasing its operations on roads, trails and bodies of water — from July 18 to Aug. 3.
Authorities say Quebec’s construction holiday often leads to an increase in injuries and fatalities linked to collisions, including with off-road vehicles.
“It’s important to remember that approximately one-third of Quebecers take time off during this period, which significantly increases road travel, as well as the number of people participating in water activities and trails,” the SQ said in a news release.
Police are urging Quebecers to follow the rules and be safe, such as wearing helmets while riding ATVs and flotation devices while on the water.
“We’re counting on your cooperation to make this vacation memorable and safe for everyone,” the Quebec provincial police force said. “Just because we’re enjoying the good weather doesn’t mean we should stop being careful.”
