One person is in critical condition following an accident involving heavy machinery at a construction site in Saint-Calixte, in the Lanaudière region, on Thursday.
The incident occurred shortly before 11:45 a.m., when a grader performing work on Route 335 collided with a flagman on the site.
According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the machine, which was reversing, was moving “at very low speed” when it struck the signaller.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where his life is feared, explained SQ spokeperson Marc Tessier.
Investigators were on site to gather witness statements and better understand the circumstances leading up to the accident. Tessier also confirmed that the CNESST has been notified of the situation, as it is a work-related accident.
