A Gastown pub and single room occupancy (SRO) hotel was the scene of a two-alarm fire that broke out Thursday afternoon.
Approximately 50 firefighters were dispatched to the blaze after smoke was spotted billowing out of the back of Funky Winker Beans pub and the nearby SRO on Hastings Street by Abbott Street.
One firefighter is believed to have suffered minor injuries from the blaze.
Hastings Street was blocked off in both directions as crews worked to contain the fire.
“They got crews up in to investigate where the cause of the smoke and the fire was,” said Asst. Fire Chief Jerret Gray.
“They found that the fire was in the walls between the two buildings of West 35 and West 33 Hastings Street. Crews exposed and got to the seat of the fire and knocked it down.”
Crews were left to clean up hot spots at the scene. Investigators say the fire did not appear to pose a danger to the public.
