A home on the outskirts of Osoyoos was destroyed by a grass fire Thursday.
Osoyoos RCMP Sgt. Jason Bayda says the fire, at a home on Osoyoos Indian Band land, broke out around 3 p.m.
“Early indication is that the homeowner was mowing their lawn when the grass surrounding the house caught fire. And unfortunately, it spread to the garage and then further to the house and then some vehicles as well,” Bayda told 1130 NewsRadio.
Local fire departments, as well as BC Wildfire personnel, responded.
Bayda says the fire was quickly knocked down, and no properties at a nearby subdivision were impacted.
He says the fire danger risk for the Osoyoos area is listed as high, but it’s considered extreme just to the southwest of the town.
