“Canada Post Faces Crucial Vote: Union Members Cast Ballots on New Contract Offer”

Unionized Canada Post workers begin voting Monday on the Crown corporation’s latest contract offers.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) is urging them to reject the proposal.

Canada Post is at an impasse with the union, which represents approximately 55,000 postal workers, after more than a year and a half of negotiations.

The vote comes after federal Employment Minister Patty Hajdu asked the Canada Industrial Relations Board to intervene and put the Crown corporation’s latest offers to a vote.

The offers include wage increases of approximately 13 per cent over four years, but also add part-time workers that Canada Post considers necessary to maintain postal service.

The union’s national president, Jan Simpson, indicated that a strong “no” vote would not only reject the offer but also protect the integrity of the bargaining process.
