One person was killed during an early morning crash along Burnaby Mountain Parkway on Thursday.
In a statement, the Burnaby RCMP says the rollover crash happened around 4 a.m. Photos from the scene show a badly damaged vehicle, with debris strewn across the roadway.
Mounties say one person inside the vehicle was dead when first responders got to the scene.
“As investigators work to determine the cause of the crash, we ask that the public avoid Burnaby Mountain Parkway between Gagliardi Way and Duthie Avenue,” Cpl. Mike Kalanj explained.
Police say the closure of Burnaby Mountain Parkway will remain in place for the morning, potentially stretching into the afternoon.
Mounties did not provide details on whether anyone else was injured during the crash.
TransLink says the 144 and R5 bus routes are being detoured around the closure.
“Police do not have anything further to share at this time; however, more information will be provided as soon as it is available. Burnaby RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team has conduct of the investigation, which is ongoing,” Kalanj said.
