“Gas Leak Triggers Chaos on Millennium Line, Disrupting Commuters”

A ruptured gas line is causing disruptions to SkyTrain services in Burnaby.

The Millennium Line between Sperling-Burnaby Lake station and Production Way-University has been temporarily shut down.

The utility provider Fortis BC says that a construction company accidentally damaged the gas line along Lougheed Highway in Burnaby.

“An external party who is working in the area damaged a gas service line,” explained Fortis BC spokesperson Holly Harrison.

The utility provider contacted SkyTrain to close the affected station in the vicinity of the gas leak.

“As a safety precaution, we do like to keep the area around clear, which is why we have worked with TransLink to secure those Skytrain stations,” Harrison said.

Fortis BC crews are on the scene to respond to the leak.

The Burnaby Fire Department says crews are also on scene to assist with the leak and to cordon off Lake City Way to Philips Avenue along Lougheed highway.

No public advisory has been issued at this point.

TransLink says it installed a bus bridge between the two affect SkyTrain stations.

Canada and Expo Lines are unaffected.
