Two people lost their lives in a crash in Lac-Bouchette early Saturday morning in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region.
Police arrived at the scene of the accident at around 5:00 a.m. on Route 155, near Principale Street, in this small municipality of 1,200 inhabitants.
“According to initial reports, the driver lost control and the vehicle rolled over. It ended up in a ditch before catching fire. The fire was quickly brought under control by firefighters,” said Sergeant Ève Brochu-Joubert, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
Four people were in the vehicle.
“One of the passengers was ejected and was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene. The driver suffered serious injuries. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition,” said the SQ spokesperson.
The man, who was in his thirties, was pronounced dead at the hospital, the SQ reported.
“Two other passengers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. We are still waiting to find out the nature of their injuries,” said the sergeant.
An SQ police officer specializing in collision investigations went to the scene to try to determine the circumstances that led to this fatal crash.
