Mystery in LaSalle: Woman Found Unconscious on Street Dies from Injuries

A 37-year-old woman who was found unconscious on the pavement, seriously injured, in the LaSalle borough of Montreal, has died from her injuries.

A call to 911 led emergency services to the woman on Clément Street, near Saint-Patrick Street, at around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died a few hours later.

“At the scene, a 37-year-old man was arrested for driving while impaired by alcohol. He was taken to a detention center,” said Officer Jeanne Drouin, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Service (SPVM).

However, it is unclear whether the woman was struck by the car. This is one of the scenarios being investigated by SPVM investigators.

“Several hypotheses are on the table for investigators. Was the woman hit by the vehicle? Was she in the vehicle beforehand? Did she fall out of the vehicle or decide to get out while the vehicle was moving, and was she hit at that moment?” explained Jean-Pierre Brabant, another SPVM spokesperson.

However, he said it is certain that the vehicle was involved in some way.

SPVM investigators and the vehicle inspection should help clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police officers were also scheduled to meet with neighborhood residents during the day.

“At around 1:15 a.m., it was dark. There weren’t many witnesses. We will try to find out more with surveillance cameras and by going door to door in the apartment buildings across from where it happened,” said Officer Brabant.

The scene was secured with a safety perimeter to allow investigators to analyze various elements.

The SPVM investigation is ongoing.
