“Murder Charges Escalate in Coquitlam Slaying: Suspect Faces Second-Degree Accusation”

The BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) has upgraded its charges against a 59-year-old suspect in a Coquitlam homicide to second-degree murder.

The Coquitlam RCMP says that the suspect was originally charged with aggravated assault earlier this month.

“As part of the investigation, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has determined that the victim and the suspect were known to one another,” said Corporal Esther Tupper of the IHIT.

According to police, Coquitlam RCMP received calls of assault involving a weapon on Friday, August 1, at around 6:20 a.m. on Midvale Street.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a male individual with severe injuries.
