“Boil Before You Sip: Watering Ban Ends in Longueuil & Boucherville, Safety Measures Continue”

The City of Longueuil has lifted the watering ban notice on Friday morning for the cities of Longueuil and Boucherville which was issued after two water main breaks occurred on Thursday. The boil water advisory is still in effect for a portion of the Vieux-Longueuil borough and the City of Boucherville.

“There is no longer a need for the population to minimize their use of drinking water,” they explained.

“The city thanks the population for its contribution to the collective effort in the last 24 hours. This mobilization was essential during this exceptional situation,” they added. “The teams, who continuously monitor the network, reported a significant reduction in water consumption.”

Part of Jacques-Cartier Bldv. East in Longueuil was closed to traffic for most of the day Thursday due to a water main break causing a “major” water leak.

Longueuil Police (SPAL) reported that the boulevard was closed in both directions between Jean-Paul-Vincent Blvd. and Du Tremblay Rd.

The closure started overnight and lasted until about 4 p.m.

The city was looking to start excavation and repair work late Thursday afternoon. On Friday morning, the city confirmed with CityNews that the repair has been completed and the water has been cleared from the street.

Boil Water Advisory Still in Effect

As of Friday morning, the boil water advisory was still in effect for the affected portion of the Vieux-Longueuil borough and the entire territory of Boucherville.

“It is recommended to boil water for at least one minute before consuming it and to continue doing so until further notice,” the City of Longueuil said.
