“Urgent Cold Case Alert: IHIT Seeks New Leads in Unsolved 2016 Surrey Shooting Death”

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is once again asking the public for assistance in its investigation of a shooting in Surrey nine years ago.

On July 23, 2016, the RCMP was called to the area of 90A Avenue near 142A Street, where they found two people with gunshot wounds.

One of the victims was 28-year-old Jatinder “Michael” Sandhu, who was taken to hospital and later died of his injuries.

The second victim survived.

Police say that while it appears the shooting was linked to the BC Gang Conflict, they believe the victims were not the intended targets.

Neither Sandhu nor the other victim had criminal records.

In a statement, Sandhu’s family says he would have turned 37 this year.

“It’s been nine long years since Michael was taken from us,” the statement said.

“There may be people out there who may have information about that night. If so, please help bring justice to our family.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
