A tragic accident on Sunday resulted in a fatal crash that shut down the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 in Chilliwack for several hours, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
The incident, reported by the BC Highway Patrol (BCHP), occurred just before 1 p.m. between Young and Prest roads. A 74-year-old woman from Agassiz lost control of her grey Ford Focus, causing it to roll into a ditch.

Following the collision, investigators closed the highway for a thorough examination. The road closure lasted until approximately 9 p.m. when DriveBC confirmed the highway had reopened.
While the BCHP has not found any evidence of criminal activity, authorities are seeking witnesses who may have information about the accident.
