Mississauga Breaks Ranks: Opts Out of Full-Time Office Return Mandate Unlike Brampton and Provincial Counterparts

Mississauga Decides to Maintain Hybrid Work Model While Brampton and Province Transition to Full-Time Office Return

Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish announced on Friday that the city will be sticking with its current hybrid work model, in contrast to Brampton and the provincial government’s plans for full-time office returns. The hybrid model allows employees to work three days in the office and have the option to work remotely for the other two days.

Mayor Parrish stated that 80% of Mississauga’s 8,378 staff currently choose to work in the office five days a week, with the remaining 20% opting for the hybrid work arrangement. The city will continue to monitor the situation to ensure excellent service for residents and maintain positive engagement with employees.

In contrast, the provincial government announced that starting October 20, public servants will be required to work in the office four days a week, transitioning to five days a week by January 5, 2026. Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown has indicated that the city will follow suit and mandate full-time in-office work for its employees next year.

The decision to maintain a hybrid work model in Mississauga aligns with the preferences of its staff and the city’s commitment to flexibility in the workplace.
