Montreal Ends Watering Ban: West Island Residents Free to Irrigate Again

Residents in several boroughs on the West Island of Montreal can now breathe a sigh of relief as the City has officially lifted the water ban that had been in place for weeks. Effective immediately, restrictions on activities such as lawn watering and other water use have been removed in L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève, Pierrefonds-Roxboro, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Senneville, and Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue.

This decision comes following a period of water conservation measures initiated on August 11 and 12 due to critically low levels in the Rivière des Prairies caused by the combination of extreme heat and dry conditions. The ban had impacted various activities including the use of sprinklers, automatic watering systems, washing cars, and filling swimming pools.

While the situation has now been resolved, the City is reminding residents to continue using water responsibly moving forward.
