Firefighters in Chilliwack courageously fought a basement blaze at a residence on Williams Street this Monday morning. The swift response of a dedicated 22-person crew was crucial in containing the fire within the single-family home near Riverside Drive at 8 a.m.
According to a statement released later that day, the firefighters wasted no time in launching an aggressive attack from the inside, successfully confining the fire to its source. A thorough search confirmed that all occupants had escaped unharmed. Paramedics also attended to one person for smoke inhalation.
As investigations into the cause of the fire commence, the Chilliwack Fire Department issued a reminder for all residents to prioritize safety by having functional smoke alarms on every floor and each sleeping area within their homes.
