The Gallant Commission, responsible for investigating the shortcomings in the digital transformation of the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), is set to resume its public hearings on Monday morning in Montreal.
The inquiry into the SAAQ’s IT modernization efforts, including the SAAQclic platform, will hear from new witnesses following a two-month break. Over 45 witnesses have already testified during the hearings led by Judge Denis Gallant.
In the upcoming weeks, the spotlight will be on political figures, with current Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Geneviève Guilbault, and former minister François Bonnardel, among those summoned to testify.
Notable figures such as former CEOs Nathalie Tremblay and Éric Ducharme, along with Karl Malenfant, the former Vice-President of Information Technology responsible for the SAAQclic platform’s implementation, are yet to be questioned.
The failed digital transformation of SAAQ is projected to incur costs exceeding $1.1 billion, surpassing initial estimates by $500 million. The commission is expected to deliver its report by December 15 after sitting in Montreal for the next three weeks before returning to Quebec City.
