A lawsuit has been filed against a Buddhist monk and the Vancouver temple he leads, accusing him of sexual and physical abuse towards a child from 2003 to 2005. The victim, now residing in Coquitlam, endured mistreatment including spitting, boiling water incidents, physical assaults, and forced sex acts, as detailed in court documents.
The legal action focuses on the man who currently serves as the president of the World Vietnamese Buddhist Order Chân Quang Temple, previously acting as the child’s guardian and instructor. Allegations extend to the accused causing severe injuries, such as a ruptured stomach that led to hospitalization and subsequent placement in foster care in 2005.
Despite enduring significant trauma at a young age, the victim protected his abuser during a police investigation, citing grooming tactics. The lawsuit aims to secure compensation for past and future financial losses, ongoing care expenses, punitive damages, and additional damages.
The temple, situated near Commercial Drive on East 1st Avenue, and its president have yet to respond to the legal action.
