According to the Richmond Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday near the intersection of Granville Avenue and St. Albans Road. A store employee alerted emergency services about the fire, prompting a swift response from Richmond Fire Rescue.
A video circulating online, reportedly captured at the scene, depicts individuals struggling to contain the flames as they engulf a cart of items near the store entrance.
Cpl. Melissa Lui issued a statement urging anyone with additional footage or details pertaining to the event to come forward and assist the investigating authorities.
Law enforcement officials have zeroed in on a person of interest in connection with the incident, which is currently the subject of a thorough investigation.
