City of Mississauga Plans to Crack Down on Intersection Blocking
In an effort to improve traffic safety, drivers in Mississauga may soon face fines for obstructing intersections. The city council, in a unanimous decision on July 30, supported a proposal put forth by Ward 1 Councilor Stephen Dasko to introduce a $125 penalty for this offense.
Dasko highlighted the pressing need for this measure, stating, “It’s a growing issue as we continue to grow as a city.” The initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance road safety for all residents.
Compared to neighboring GTA municipalities that already enforce fines for intersection blocking, Mississauga has been lagging behind. The next step involves seeking approval from the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General before the fine can be implemented.
