Vancouver authorities are set to dismantle the memorial honoring the victims of the tragic Lapu-Lapu Day festival attack. The moving of mementos and tributes from the roadside site at 43rd Avenue and Fraser Street to Mountain View Cemetery will commence this Wednesday.
Supported by Filipino BC, a key organization aiding the victims and their families post the April 26th incident, the relocation has been officially approved. Expressing satisfaction in the city’s engagement with affected families, Filipino BC shared their approval on social media last Friday.
The community is encouraged by the organization to join in refreshing the memorial at the cemetery at 5:30 p.m., by contributing new flowers and offerings.
In a related development, the devastating attack during the Filipino street festival resulted in the loss of eleven lives and numerous injuries. The alleged perpetrator, Adam Kai-Ji Lo, facing eleven counts of second-degree murder, recently appeared via video for a court hearing. A media consortium has raised concerns about a publication ban on evidence, questioning Lo’s fitness to stand trial, which will be further deliberated on Friday.
