The B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation has reprimanded a Mission teacher for failing to treat her students with respect.
The commissioner released a disciplinary resolution agreement with Grade 8 teacher Ming Chen for an incident reported in July 2024.
According to the agreement, Chen got into a tug-of-war over a backpack with a student who failed to return a book to its “proper spot on a shelf.”
She also threw the same student’s backpack from a classroom to the hall when the student wouldn’t leave.
In another incident, the commissioner says the student told her they would pee if not allowed to go to the washroom.
“Chen replied, ‘go ahead’, referring to peeing themself.”
Chen was subsequently suspended without pay for a day and issued a letter of discipline.
She will now have to complete a course on Creating a Positive Learning Environment.
