Highway 40 westbound is completely closed between the municipalities of Berthierville and Lanoraie for an indefinite period, the Ministry of Transportation reported early Sunday morning.
The highway has been closed between Route 158, in Berthierville, and Chemin de Joliette, in Lanoraie, in the Lanaudière region, since Saturday evening.
This closure is caused by the collapse of a culvert located between Rang de la Rivière-Bayonne Sud and Chemin de Joliette, in Lanoraie. Traffic is being diverted onto Route 138.
The ministry recommends that motorists use Highway 20 for their trips between Trois-Rivières and Montreal, as congestion is expected on the detour route.
The organization also invites road users to refer to Quebec 511 to keep updated.
