A man has been convicted of murdering another man in Surrey nearly a decade ago. Nicholas Khabra, 28, was tragically shot and killed on October 23, 2017. Following this incident, authorities launched an investigation into an organized crime group suspected of multiple homicides, including Khabra’s death. In September 2018, Brandon Teixeira was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting. Despite attempts to apprehend him, Teixeira managed to escape law enforcement and fled the country.
After being captured in Oroville, California in late 2019, Teixeira was brought back to Canada for trial in early 2020. Recently, the B.C. Supreme Court rendered its verdict, finding Teixeira guilty of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and the intentional discharge of a firearm in relation to Khabra’s murder. Corporal Sarbjit Sangha from the CFSEU-BC expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the trial, characterizing it as the culmination of a challenging investigation into a dangerous individual involved in the homicide.
Teixeira’s sentencing is anticipated to take place in September, according to Sangha.
