Luigi, a charming two-year-old tuxedo cat, embarked on a daring adventure when he slipped out of his owner’s car during a ferry ride from Duke Point to Tsawwassen. Despite the initial panic and uncertainty that followed his disappearance, a heartwarming reunion was in the cards.
Neelya Krikke, Luigi’s owner, expressed her devastation when initial searches failed to locate him on the boat’s lower deck. With the assistance of the dedicated B.C. Ferries staff and Halo’s Pet Rescue volunteers, a thorough search was conducted to find the missing feline companion. Karen Nixon, the founder of Halo’s Pet Rescue, led the search efforts but unfortunately came up empty-handed.
Determined not to lose hope, the search continued across terminals, with Krikke and the rescue team tirelessly combing the area. Fortunately, a breakthrough came when a BC Ferries worker spotted Luigi hidden behind a trailer near the ferry terminal. Despite being scared, the resilient feline eventually responded to kindness and coaxing.
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the community, Luigi was successfully reunited with his relieved owner, bringing an end to the anxious days of separation. The heartwarming sight of Luigi cuddling with his siblings at home serves as a reminder of the power of persistence and the unwavering support of a caring community.
