Blue Jays Make Bold Move: Snag Former Silver Slugger Eloy Jiménez on Minor-League Deal

The Toronto Blue Jays have made a significant addition to their roster by signing former Silver Slugger recipient, Eloy Jiménez, to a minor-league contract.

At 28 years old, Jiménez was last seen in the major leagues in 2024 with the Baltimore Orioles. Hailed for his impressive power and offensive capabilities, the Dominican outfielder was previously playing for the Durham Bulls, the Tampa Bay Rays’ Triple-A affiliate, before his recent release.

Jiménez rose to prominence as one of baseball’s most promising young hitters when he burst onto the scene with the Chicago White Sox in 2020. He clinched the prestigious Silver Slugger award that year, following a stellar season. Additionally, he garnered attention by finishing fourth in the American League Rookie of the Year voting in 2019, recording 31 home runs and 79 RBIs during his debut season with the White Sox. However, his progress has been hindered by injuries and inconsistency since then.

Although Toronto has not specified Jiménez’s immediate assignment, it is anticipated that he will soon join the Buffalo Bisons, the Blue Jays’ Triple-A team.

This acquisition fortifies the Blue Jays’ outfield and designated hitter options, providing added depth to the team as they assess talent in preparation for the final stages of the season. In addition to this move, the Blue Jays recently brought back left-handed pitcher Ryan Borucki on a minor-league contract, reuniting him with the organization that drafted him in 2012. Borucki, who has experience both as a starter and reliever, previously played five seasons in Toronto.
