“Labour Day Sparks Fly: Mississauga Requires Permits for Fireworks, Brampton Enforces Total Ban”

Residents in Mississauga are required to obtain a permit for fireworks this Labour Day, whereas Brampton has imposed a complete ban on fireworks usage.

During holidays, Mississauga often experiences an increase in complaints related to fireworks usage. City officials reported receiving more than 60 complaints registered by bylaw officers over the recent Canada Day holiday period.

Fireworks can be enjoyed without permits on specific occasions such as Victoria Day, Canada Day, Diwali, Lunar New Year, and New Year’s Eve.

In lieu of fireworks, city officials recommend celebrating with alternatives like sparklers, glow sticks, or noisemakers.

Contrastingly in Brampton, all activities related to fireworks, including use, sale, display, purchase, distribution, and possession, are strictly prohibited within the city limits.

Offenders face a substantial minimum fine of $500 for discharging fireworks, while the sale of fireworks carries a penalty of up to $100,000.

It’s important to note that sparklers are an exception to the ban in Brampton and are permitted for use.

Earlier this year, several other cities in Ontario, such as Kitchener and Waterloo, also implemented bans on the sale of fireworks.
