Mayor Confirms: No Evictions for Clubs at South Surrey Athletic Park

Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke clarifies recent rumors surrounding the potential eviction of three local Rotary clubs from South Surrey Athletic Park. A recent letter had caused concern among the clubs, suggesting they were facing eviction from the facility. However, Mayor Locke has clarified that the only intended change is to allow Coastal FC to store their youth soccer equipment at the Rotary Fieldhouse.

In a statement, Locke emphasized the City of Surrey’s ongoing support for Rotary clubs across the city and expressed confusion over the spread of misinformation. She pointed out that the city remains committed to supporting Rotary’s initiatives and activities.

Addressing concerns raised by critics who accused the mayor of creating divisions between the clubs and youth soccer, Locke stressed that the intention was to find a balance that allows both groups to thrive. While acknowledging the importance of the sports fields for teams, she highlighted Rotary’s valuable contributions to the community.

Despite the adjustments, Locke assured that the Rotary clubs would still have access to office, meeting, and kitchen spaces within the facility. Additionally, city staff are actively working to secure an alternative location for the clubs to store their books for their annual fundraiser.
