Yves Veggie Cuisine, a long-standing favorite among vegans and plant-based eaters, has announced that it will cease selling its products in Canada. The company, originally founded in Vancouver and now based in the U.S., cites declining demand as the reason behind this decision.
After 40 years in the industry, Yves Veggie Cuisine is facing challenges in the competitive plant-based market. Michael von Massow, a Food Economist from the University of Guelph, explains, “The plant-based market hasn’t seen the rapid growth many anticipated, leading to increased competition and stagnant demand.”
This news may come as a disappointment to loyal customers who will now have to seek alternative options. Von Massow acknowledges the impact on brand enthusiasts, emphasizing that despite the popularity of plant-based products, the market share for vegetarians and vegans remains relatively stable.
While fans express their sadness and frustration on social media, with many reminiscing about their long-standing relationship with Yves products, the company reassures that its offerings will still be available in Canadian stores for a limited time.
As the plant-based market continues to evolve, von Massow predicts an influx of new vegan options in the future, despite the current challenges faced by Yves Veggie Cuisine.
