A 17-year-old boy facing new charge for assaulting a peace officer

A 17-year-old boy allegedly connected to plans to carry out an attack for the Islamic State is now facing a fresh charge for assaulting a peace officer. The incident took place at RCMP headquarters in Westmount, Que., following the teen’s arrest on Aug. 20, as revealed by federal prosecutor Marc Cigana during a press briefing at Montreal’s youth court.

The charge specifies that the officer sustained bodily harm during the altercation. The minor, whose identity remains protected due to age, is also accused of providing support for terrorist activities, engaging with a terrorist group, and aiding terrorist endeavors.

Appearing in court today donning a white dress shirt and escorted by three security personnel, the youth’s release has been opposed by the Crown. The case is scheduled to reconvene on Sept. 12.
