Teen Faces Terrorism Charges and New Allegation of Assaulting Officer, Prosecutors Say

A 17-year-old teenager suspected of planning an attack linked to the Islamic State is now facing a new charge for allegedly assaulting a peace officer in Montreal.

During a court appearance at Montreal’s youth court, federal prosecutor Marc Cigana revealed that the incident took place at the RCMP headquarters in Westmount, Que., following the teen’s arrest on August 20. The charge specifies that the officer sustained bodily harm.

The minor, whose identity is protected due to his age, is also accused of providing resources for terrorist activities, engaging in terrorist group activities, and supporting terrorist acts.

Appearing in court today dressed in a white shirt and guarded by three security personnel, the teenager’s release has been contested by the Crown. The case is scheduled to be heard again on September 12.
