“British Columbia Engulfed: 40 Wildfires Ignite in Just One Day”

The BC Wildfire Service is actively managing a total of 117 wildfires across the province, with more than 40 of them erupting just in the last day.

These fresh fires are predominantly concentrated in the southern part of British Columbia, specifically spanning from Whistler to Pemberton and around Fairview Mountain near Cawston.

A series of small fires have emerged in the Sea to Sky region, with some breaking out north of Squamish and another group near the Pemberton and Whistler areas.

Recent rainfall has been aiding in the containment efforts for the Fairview Mountain fire, which currently measures under a hectare and is suspected to be caused by lightning strikes.

The Lower Similkameen Indian Band has confirmed that firefighting crews are actively working to manage the situation, with heli-tankers being deployed to tackle the fire.

At present, there is no immediate significant threat posed by the fire.

Additionally, the Sailor Bar wildfire is still burning out of control and has expanded to cover an area of 111 hectares since it was first discovered on Saturday, August 23.

An evacuation alert was issued by the Spuzzum First Nation on Sunday, August 24, in response to this wildfire.

Of the 117 fires, 51 are currently categorized as out of control. Ongoing thunderstorms in southern BC could potentially elevate the risk of more wildfires erupting.

Despite the surge in fire activity, no new evacuation alerts or orders have been issued.
