Richmond Police Warn of Job Scam Targeting Residents
Residents of Richmond are being cautioned by the local police about a recent scam involving job posters circulating in the area. The scam, which features posters written in simplified Chinese, promotes fake job opportunities including house-sitting, caregiving, and packaging roles.
Cpl. Adriana O’Malley, Media Relations Officer for Richmond RCMP, highlighted the deceptive nature of these job postings. She explained, “The posters lure individuals with promises of employment in various roles such as house sitter, elderly caregiver, and tea leaves packager, along with a contact number for inquiries.”
According to O’Malley, these job offers are fraudulent, with one victim reporting being coerced into making a deceptive investment after responding to the advertisement.
To protect themselves from falling victim to such scams, O’Malley advises caution when engaging with anonymous or unverified job listings. She emphasized the importance of safeguarding personal information and exercising vigilance when considering job opportunities from unfamiliar sources.
