A brazen robbery took place at White Rock Jewellers within Semiahmoo Mall in Surrey, causing shock and distress among the employees and owners. This incident marked the fifth theft at the store, occurring just days after reopening post a similar occurrence in March 2024.
Jenny Nyguen, an employee at White Rock Jewellers, expressed her shock and panic at the event, which unfolded around 5:30 p.m. Surveillance footage captured a man in a distinctive blue sweatshirt and black shorts browsing the display before swiftly turning into a thief. Within minutes, he reentered through a side entrance, vandalized a display using a tool, and escaped with a reported $100,000 worth of merchandise.
Crystal Nyugen, another employee, lamented the situation, emphasizing the hard work put into the store’s recent renovation and the disappointment of facing another setback so soon.
The family owners, declining to appear on camera due to security concerns, highlighted the challenges of obtaining insurance coverage following multiple incidents, limiting their options in the wake of the robbery.
Despite the adversity, the community has rallied around the jewellers, offering support as they strive to recover and continue operations amidst ongoing police investigations.
