Burnaby Chaos: Multi-Car Crash Leads to Surprise DUI Arrest

Afternoon Incidents Keep Burnaby RCMP Busy on Highway 1

The Burnaby RCMP had a hectic Saturday afternoon attending to two separate incidents along Highway 1, reminding drivers to stay vigilant on busy roadways.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m., officers responded to a three-car collision near the Willingdon Avenue offramp. One driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, while the other two drivers emerged unscathed and were able to drive away from the scene.

An hour later, reports came in of a man driving recklessly on the highway shoulder, visibly drinking from a bottle of vodka. This incident occurred near the same area where the earlier collision had taken place. Police acted swiftly, apprehending the impaired driver and towing away his vehicle.

Cpl. Mike Kalanj emphasized the importance of responsible driving, especially during busy holiday weekends in Lower Mainland. He condemned the disregard for public safety displayed by the impaired driver and urged all motorists to make wise choices before getting behind the wheel.
