As students prepare to head back to school on September 2, the Surrey Police Service (SPS) is urging commuters to exercise caution on the roads.
Sgt. Tige Pollock emphasized the importance of planning for longer commutes due to increased traffic flow. He advised drivers to allocate extra time for their journeys, as the roads are expected to be busier with the return of classes.
In addition to reminding motorists to be vigilant, the police are also urging students to prioritize safety. Pollock highlighted the significance of students being aware of their surroundings, emphasizing the dangers of using headphones or earbuds while crossing the street.
As schools resume, law enforcement officers will be focusing on monitoring school zones for an extended period. Pollock emphasized the need for drivers to be familiar with school zone locations along their regular routes and to adhere to the speed limits in these areas.
