“Deadly Danger Looms at Cherry Beach: Ignored Warnings Surround Hazardous, Abandoned Dock”

A damaged dock near Cherry Beach has become a safety concern for water enthusiasts, with ongoing delays in its removal causing frustration among locals. The dock, deemed a hazard by swimmers and boaters, was first highlighted in February, raising worries ahead of the 2025 boating season.

Members of The Water Rats Sailing club, who rely on this part of the waterfront for launching watercraft, expressed their concerns over the dock’s presence. Despite assurances from Ports Toronto earlier in the year that a solution would be found, the dock remains untouched, posing a potential danger to those using the area.

Efforts to remove the dock have been complicated by ownership issues, as it was initially placed by a former water taxi company owner who is now unresponsive. Ports Toronto has been unsuccessful in reaching the current owner, who reportedly intended to relocate the dock but never followed through. As frustrations mount, calls for decisive action to remove the dock have intensified.

With repeated warnings and letters failing to prompt action from the owners, Ports Toronto is now considering hiring a marine contractor to dispose of the dock if removal demands are not met. However, a clear deadline for this course of action has not been provided, leaving the community anxious for a resolution to this lingering safety concern.
