RCMP Officer Critically Wounds Suspect in Violent Burnaby Domestic Dispute

A person was hospitalized after a police-involved shooting took place in Burnaby on a Monday afternoon.

The BC RCMP has informed the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) following the incident that occurred at approximately 3 p.m.

Responding to a report of a domestic dispute at a residence on Dundas Street near Maddison Avenue, the Burnaby RCMP encountered an individual wielding a bladed weapon. A confrontation ensued, leading to law enforcement firing shots, as revealed by Mounties on Tuesday.

The injured individual was swiftly transported to the hospital in a critical condition due to gunshot wounds. Fortunately, no other individuals were harmed during the altercation.

The IIO BC is mandated to intervene in cases where police involvement results in fatalities or severe injuries, regardless of accusations of misconduct.

“The IIO BC has been informed and is present at the scene to analyze the police response in this situation. The area has been secured to facilitate the investigation process.”

The Burnaby RCMP is actively probing the events that prompted the initial emergency call for assistance.
