Five individuals were apprehended for alleged kidnapping in an incident that unfolded on Tuesday evening in the vicinity of Montreal’s South Shore.
Upon receiving a distress call, officers from the Roussillon Intermunicipal Police Department swiftly descended upon the Sainte-Catherine Motel, located roughly 20 kilometers south of Montreal, in response to reports of a confrontation involving approximately 20 individuals.
According to a statement released by the police department on Wednesday morning, a cluster of five people asserted that they had been forcibly abducted earlier in the day within Montreal.
As per accounts from the purported victims and eyewitnesses present at the scene, the individuals were reportedly transported against their will to the motel premises with the alleged motive of extorting a ransom for their safe release.
Subsequently, at approximately 6:50 p.m., law enforcement officials apprehended the five suspects on-site on charges related to kidnapping.
The suspects are scheduled to undergo questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
The police press release indicated that the five apprehended individuals were not previously known to law enforcement, and further interviews with witnesses are yet to be conducted by investigators.
