Police in Durham Region responded to a distressing incident early Monday morning that resulted in a 36-year-old man being taken into custody and a woman fighting for her life due to what authorities are calling a severe case of domestic violence.
According to reports, officers rushed to a home in Clarington around 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 1 after receiving a concerning call for help. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman inside the residence who had sustained visible injuries indicative of severe trauma. Immediate medical attention was provided on the spot, and she was swiftly transported to a trauma center in the Toronto area, where she remains in critical condition.
The man present in the house during the incident was apprehended by the police without resistance. Identified as a resident of Clarington, he has since been charged with aggravated assault and is being held pending a bail hearing.
To safeguard the victim’s privacy, authorities have refrained from disclosing the accused man’s name. The case is being treated as a matter of domestic violence and is currently under investigation.
