The BC Wildfire Service conducted an emergency landing of a helicopter near Pemberton on Wednesday.
BC’s Minister of Forests, Ravi Parmar, confirmed that the helicopter, carrying initial attack firefighters, was responding to a wildfire in the area.
Fortunately, all occupants of the helicopter survived the incident. Minister Parmar expressed relief, stating, “I’m pleased to report that all individuals are safe with no serious injuries. First responders are currently at the scene,” during a press briefing in Victoria.
The BC Wildfire Service has identified five active wildfires close to Pemberton. Among them, three fires to the east are uncontained, with the largest known as the Bastion Peak wildfire, currently spanning 66 hectares.
Additionally, two wildfires have been reported west of Pemberton, one of which is uncontrolled, while the other is under control and covers an area of five hectares.
