“Lytton Sweats Under Scorching 40°C Heatwave, B.C. Warnings Amplify”

High Temperatures Continue in British Columbia, Breaking Records and Prompting Heat Warnings

As British Columbia basks in the scorching heat, daily temperature records have tumbled in multiple communities, with the mercury soaring to a sizzling 40 degrees Celsius in the Fraser Canyon. The persistent heat has triggered heat warnings and air-quality advisories across the province.

Lytton made headlines by hitting the 40-degree mark, surpassing a previous record set in 2022. Other areas like Cache Creek, Kelowna, Princeton, and Whistler also sizzled with new daily high temperature records.

Heat warnings are in effect for nine regions, spanning from the north and central coast to the Fraser Canyon and Boundary areas. At the same time, air-quality advisories related to wildfire smoke blanket 13 locations in the Interior and northeast, casting a heavy haze over Metro Vancouver.

The scorching conditions in the southern Interior are attributed to a stubborn high-pressure system dominating the region, posing a moderate health risk. Fortunately, relief is on the horizon, with heat warnings set to ease by Thursday in the southern Interior and Friday in inland sections of the north and central coast. However, the smoky air advisories are anticipated to linger until Friday in most affected areas.
