Authorities in York Region are on the lookout for three individuals linked to an attempted break-in at a residence, which coincided with a fatal shooting earlier the same day.
According to investigators, the incident unfolded around 2:30 a.m. on August 31 in the vicinity of Major Mackenzie Drive and Highway 27, where reports of a burglary in progress prompted a police response.
Footage from a doorbell security camera captured three males, dressed in dark attire and masks, trying to enter the home forcefully, with one of them brandishing a handgun.
Despite the presence of two adults and two children inside the house at the time, no physical harm was inflicted, and no items were stolen.
The primary suspect was identified wearing a Nike tech hoodie, Nike track pants, and gloves, holding a handgun. The second suspect was clad in all-black attire, including a balaclava and gloves, while the third suspect sported a hoodie, track pants, and gloves.
Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to reach out to the police or Crime Stoppers.
The attempted home invasion occurred only a kilometer away from a separate incident on Andreeta Drive that tragically claimed the life of 46-year-old Abdul Aleem Farooqi. It remains unclear if the two episodes are linked.
