“Port Moody Heroes Quench Inferno at Local Business Hub”

Early Wednesday morning, Port Moody Fire Rescue crews swiftly responded to a minor fire at a group of businesses along St Johns Street, situated between Moody and Williams streets.

Fire Chief Darcey O’Riordan mentioned that the department was alerted to the fire at approximately 1:30 a.m. Upon arrival, a team of 22 firefighters encountered one of the businesses fully engulfed in flames.

Fortunately, the fire was contained to a single unit and was successfully extinguished with only minor damage sustained by adjacent units. O’Riordan confirmed that there were no reported injuries resulting from the incident, and an investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the fire.

While firefighting operations were ongoing, St Johns Street had to be temporarily closed for safety reasons. However, TransLink informed 1130 NewsRadio that the westbound lanes were reopened by 5 a.m., with one eastbound lane also accessible, enabling the cancellation of transit detours.

Editor’s note: Contrary to earlier reports, the fire did not originate at the Port Moody Liquor Store but rather in a nearby establishment. Despite sustaining damage, the liquor store remains open for business today.
