Chilliwack Highway 1 Reopens Following Collision, One Person Injured
Highway 1 in Chilliwack is back in action after a serious collision that left one individual hospitalized and caused the closure of eastbound lanes on Wednesday.
The incident, involving two pickup truck drivers, occurred around 3:30 p.m. near the Yale Road exit, according to the BC Highway Patrol (BCHP).
Both vehicles were propelled into a deep ditch due to the impact’s velocity, as explained by the authorities on Thursday.
BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) reported that one person was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition as a result of the crash.
The drivers involved have been identified as an 18-year-old man from Chilliwack, who was operating a white Toyota Tacoma and sustained minor injuries, and an elderly man from Alberta driving a black GMC Sierra, who suffered severe, potentially life-changing injuries.
Following the collision, a section of the highway remained closed for nearly eight hours while investigators worked on the scene.
