York Region Public Health has announced a measles outbreak in Vaughan, with four confirmed cases of the virus. The outbreak is linked to Becker’s Convenience Store on 7241 Bathurst Street.
According to health officials, individuals who visited the convenience store on Sept. 2 between 2:45 and 5:15 p.m. are at risk of exposure to the virus. They are advised to ensure they have received both doses of the vaccine.
Those who believe they may have been exposed should closely monitor symptoms until Sept. 23, as measles can manifest within seven to 21 days after exposure. Symptoms include cough, high fever, runny nose, pink eye, and a characteristic red rash that typically begins on the head and neck.
The health unit is organizing measles vaccination clinics for public convenience. In Ontario, there have been a total of 2,376 reported measles cases as of Sept. 2.
