The man accused of fatally attacking convicted serial killer Robert Pickton in prison is reportedly planning to admit guilt, according to the prosecution.
Martin Charest faces a first-degree murder charge for the incident at Port-Cartier federal penitentiary in May 2024.
Allegedly, Charest thrust a broom handle into Pickton’s face, leading to his hospitalization and subsequent death at the age of 74.
A spokesperson for the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions revealed that Charest hinted at his intention to plead guilty during a recent court appearance, though communication was challenging in the high-security facility.
The court has rescheduled the case to September 25 to allow Charest to formalize his guilty plea.
Robert Pickton, a notorious Canadian serial killer, was convicted in 2007 for six counts of second-degree murder. However, he confessed to the murders of 49 women, whom he enticed to his pig farm near Vancouver.
