A man aged 49, hailing from York Region, has been charged with a series of criminal offenses after a thorough investigation into alleged sexual assaults on multiple minors.
During the period from February 2024 to June 2025, authorities claim that the individual utilized social media to communicate with several girls under 16 years old, adopting various online aliases such as “Jimmy,” “Jimmy Smoke,” and “Steve McQueen.” Subsequently, the man is alleged to have sexually assaulted these victims.
On August 28, Steven De Melis was taken into custody and slapped with multiple charges, including five counts of sexual assault, five counts of sexual interference, and six counts of invitation to sexual touching. Additionally, he is facing accusations of possessing child pornography, procuring, and multiple counts of child luring involving victims under the ages of 18, 16, and 14.
Currently, De Melis is being held in custody awaiting a bail hearing in Brampton.
Investigators have highlighted that the accused has links to York Region, Toronto, Mississauga, and Simcoe County. There are concerns that there might be more victims, and the public is urged to come forward with any relevant information to assist the authorities.
The investigation is still ongoing.
